Oy5-E-22524 February 22, 1924. Mr. Claude Johnson, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., London, England. (Copy for attention of Mr.Royce " " " Mr.E.Platford " " " Mr.E.Hives) Dear Sir: Re: [Struck through: Proposal Sheet No.35] Fiber pedal pad. This proposal is to prevent the heat of the steel pedal being communicated to the driver's foot, an effect which is painful in summer and even in long runs in cool weather. This suggestion was previously covered in report Oy1-W-72323 on "Contemplated Alterations", Item 11. It also has the effect of giving a rather wider seat for the sole of the foot and of raising the pedal facing slightly. This latter is desirable since in order to close the accelerator pedal slot, as previously described it was necessary to tilt the pedal forward about 1/2". Several materials were considered. It was found that rubber had the effect of sticking to the foot and making the action of the pedal irregular. Wood was found suitable but looked bad after a little use. A Bakelite molding was considered too brittle. Fiber was found to combine the requisites of a good wearing surface, a non-conductor and good appearance. Since the heat of the pedal is a usual source of complaint it is proposed to make this change on car 801 almost immediately. Oy. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley MO/E | ||
