R.{Sir Henry Royce} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} SECRET ORIGINAL E6/M12.2.29. C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} SS.{S. Smith} OIL FILTER. X7190 We send herewith prints of LeCs. 2667/8. dealing with the above. These are arranged in principle on the lines of the Phantom and 20HP. respectively so that it is not necessary to evacuate all the air from the strainer casing before the pump begins to draw oil. The gauze used on these strainers is very coarse so that the oil readily flows through it and submerges the suction orifice in the strainer. In LeC. 2667. the filtrate is collected on the outside of the strainer while in LeC. 2668. the reverse obtains. The former will draw oil a little sooner and makes best use of the strainer but LeC. 2668. is probably an easier job to produce, the strainer body being more simple as a casting and machining job. Also the filter is more firmly mounted on its base when withdrawn and the system is more self draining. On the whole we should vote for LeC. 2668. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
