STARTING HANDLE.
--------------

Referring to BJ7/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 17.12.25. we quite agree that the long starting handle is a distinct objection owing to its cumbersomeness.

In view of this, some time ago we sent to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, West WitteringHenry Royce's home town, a scheme for a short starting handle which we suggested would possibly be an improvement and which we thought he might improve upon and bring to R's attention. We learn that Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} has since discussed it with R.{Sir Henry Royce} and that it is possible in the near future something will materialise in this direction.

In order to get a further move on the matter, we will to-day again write to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} reminding him of the position, and asking him to push forward with the West WitteringHenry Royce's home town scheme which can be submitted to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and put on test experimentally.

The suggestion in the two last paragraphs puts individuals at Works in rather an awkward position, as we are not supposed to be interested in design, except on such remote occasions when R.{Sir Henry Royce} actually asks us to rough out a scheme, and therefore any attempt for Works to get out designs which Mr.Royce has not started them upon, and submit them to R, only gives R.{Sir Henry Royce} and West WitteringHenry Royce's home town the impression that we think we are able to do their work as well as our own, which we obviously, of course, are not capable of doing.
