SECRET. 1030 746 To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c.c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG. c.c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/PJH. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}6/JH.28.6.40. re Tracks of Myth. JH We have completed our preliminary investigation into the tracks of the above car based on the fixed assumption of 48" between the rear door pillars - see Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/ML. This gives a rear track of 51.500" as a minimum with 5.500 tyres on 16" rims and a rear wing width of 61.000 with reasonable mud lips. If we have a wing outer valance at the front 1.500 above the top of the tyre, and allow for a 1" mud lip which will be fouled by .500 ins. on full bump and full lock. This gives us a 50.000 front track. Sketches of front and rear wheel movements are being left with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG. Should it be decided to reduce the rear track below 51.500, we shall have great difficulty in reducing that of the front below 50.000. The minimum difference in tracks front and rear appears to be 1.500 ins. for equal front and rear wing widths. Most cars have a mud lip to the front wings. (The Minx .375, Rover 1.000) and only wired edges to the rear, (except the Rover, lip 3/8"). We found by experiment that anything less than 1.000 lip on the front is not effective, particularly in bad weather in London. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
