This car has almost the same acceleration from 10 - 30 m.p.h. as the standard 25 HP. car with a 35 cwt. body. The Chrysler top gear ratio is 4.9 - 1, 19 X 5.50 tyres and the complete car with sedan body weighs only 27 cwt 3 qrs. complete with wire wheels and one spare. It is said to give 63 B.H.P. at 4000 R.P.M. The suspension was poor, presumably because the little Delco's fitted are only single acting or cannot give sufficient damping. The steering had no directional stability whatever, and there was obviously something stupidly wrong with its erection. This is now carried out in England. The two points of real interest in the car are its engine and gearbox. Its complete weight for a full sized five seater is of course worthy of comment. Engine. The usual monobloc; cylinder and crankcase casting. A four bearing crankshaft balanced with a crank-shaft damper. L. head side valves. The main feature of this unit is its smoothness at high speeds and absence of fuss at high speeds which were remarkable. Actually there was a rough period on the pick up and an induction pipe roar at 30 - 40 m.p.h. on the debit side. Gearbox - 4 speed. The interesting feature about this is that they obtain a silent third with a gearbox having no centre bearing and a straight tooth gear. The Box is in cast iron. We attach a sketch showing its construction. MORRIS ISIS. 6 cyl. 69 mm. X 110 mm. 2468 cc. 17.7 R.A.C. The only thing that can be said for this car is that the power unit is smooth when it is not on any | ||
