D 205 To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.24/JH.5.11.36. Bentley Bonnet - Saving in Cost. We wish to save cost on Bentley bonnets by making them in steel instead of aluminium. We estimate that in this way we can save approximately £2.0.0d. to £2.10.0d. per car. We send you herewith a marked up print of FB.1199 and also RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}251. These show a bonnet with side and top plates of .036 thickness steel, stiffeners and linings in one with the top and side plates. The increase in weight should only be approximately 10 lbs. Will you please have such a bonnet detailed and made as soon as possible. As indicated on drawings, the stiffeners are to be spot welded to the steel plates.
