In connection with the above, we attach the power figures obtained on our test bed unit when fitted with the special parts that Ratcliffe has taken to France with him. Referring to Graph S.71 attached, Curve (2) shows the power lost to the standard exhaust system. Curve (4) shows the power that is regained if all parts of the exhaust system are removed immediately after the "cut out". It is evident, therefore, that little would be gained by attempting to increase the efficiency of the cut-out, when fitted in this position. It may be necessary for Ratcliffe to retain the standard Induction System for the following reason. It is very essential that "dampers" are used in the pistons of the 1¾" Induction System, and these may not be available in time. Curve No.(5) shows that 5-8 B.H.P. is lost in this event.
