We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1340 shewing a modified arrangement of drive for the water pump and modified water pump gland. No alteration has been made to the gear drive portions in the crankcase, but the water pump has been simply pushed just over 1" forward by making one of the members of the fabric coupling solid on the driving shaft. This allows fgw the water pump to be directly opposite No.2 cylinder, which is the best position for scheming a water connection on the cylinder block. The water pump itself has been simplified at the same time, by cancelling the coring round the gland, and making the gland larger, to suit. It is Mr. Royce's intention that the water pump shall be removed from the engine for the purpose of repacking the gland, owing to the double form of gland used having rather a deep bore. This is an operation which should very rarely be required owing to the improved style of gland, which has a central grease feed between two packings. A part of the programme of removing the pump consists of unscrewing the gland nut, so that the pump can be drawn rearwards through its ahcnorage, for the purpose of disengaging the serrated spindle from Contd. | ||
