EXPERIMENTAL WORK.

We agree that owing to the small demand for P.2 cars, and as this is likely to continue for some time, we are not justified in spending a lot of money on experimental work developing this car.

Apart from 19-EX., the work we have in hand at the moment is as follows :-

Pedals & Side Spare Wheel Carriers.

In conjunction with the synchro mesh box there is an entirely new scheme for supporting the pedals. This is essential, as the box has been made without the usual support for the pedals.

Combined with the pedal support is also/an extra stiffener to allow us to use side wheel carriers and the bonnet which overhangs the dashboard. 19-EX. has the wheels at the rear. It is therefore necessary for us to fit up a set of these pedals and the modifications for the wheel carrier to 20-EX. car which is the only car we have with side wheel carrier. We are treating this matter as urgent as the Works are busy with the production of the synchro-mesh box.

Synchro Mesh Gear Box.

22-EX. car is being used for tests on Phantom II synchro-mesh gearbox. This gearbox is not yet sufficient-ly satisfactory to justify it running an endurance test on the road. It is at present being dismantled for modifi-cations to be made. When we consider the box satisfactory it is proposed to run this car 5,000 miles, which will include an enormous amount of change gear work, in order to be able to standardise the gearbox. Before the car starts on this test we will give Sales an opportunity of trying it.

Slipper Wheels.

Also on 22-EX, we are doing a certain amount of investi-gation work on the slipper wheel. The work that is being done is not confined to P.2., the results can be applied to the whole range of our cars. Slipper wheel complaints are a very large percentage of our service troubles and we believe it is possible to get a more simple and more effective damper.
