RE ARMOURED CARS - COOLING.

Mr. Royce, after reading the report of the proceedings at the India Office on Wednesday, agrees to our making the new larger radiator if we can get one in, and experimenting with it. But he thinks we should direct our principal efforts to preventing loss of water, as water, rather than as steam.

He does not consider that the tower on the top of the radiator will do much good and would prefer to obtain the required result by adding a tank to the top of the radiator behind, as is not infrequently done.

Mr. Royce considers that the trouble arises from steam formed in the jackets, which raises the water bodily in the radiator and is not due to any great extent to splashing over from boiling or other causes.

Would Mr. Hives ascertain whether there is evidence of the water lifting bodily as described. We will send a drawing of the tank from here in a few days.

Mr. Royce has no faith in the proposal to slow down the water circulation, as suggested by Major Fraser, but has no objection to it being tried since it is very simple. He would expect more from speeding up. He agrees to the high speed fan and thinks that we should remove the thermostats from these cars, as not likely to assist in cooling.
