For the attention of G.S. Selman Esq.

Dear Sirs,

re Gun Mounting - 40 m.m. type BD.{Mr Berend}

We apologise to you for the delay in sending to you designs of the non-elevating mounting for the 40 m.m. type BD{Mr Berend} gun.

As previously stated, this mounting will follow on after the Oerlikon/type 3.SLa and will have the same base bolt circle as the proposed power mounting, so that the two may be interchangable. If and when the power mounting is available it may be desired by the Naval Authorities to convert certain craft already equipped with the non-elevating mounting, using the latter on other craft where power is not available.

On QPL.124 (sheet 1) we shew the pedestal with the base flange increased to 2.500 ins. in width. We have previously stated our reasons for not wishing to stagger the bolts.

On QPL.126 we shew a general arrangement of the gun with the crew and armour shields. The general principle of this arrangement has been approved by the Naval Authorities concerned.

We are leaving you to make the necessary provision of the step to the dimensions given. This has been arrived at as the result of tests.

Yours faithfully,
W W [illegible]
