Re W. Appointments with London.
___________________________

Thank you for copy of Hr2/H21.11.22. [crossed out]

I am sorry it does not quite clearly convey the points I intended, which were as follows:-

1. At the Midland Conference it was agreed that the Works Committee (not only EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}) should come to London to discuss, with the Administration and S. officials, standardisation sheets, on 5th November.

2. Up till 4.45 p.m. on 6th November, no W. officials had arrived for the conference. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} then reported that the Works Committee had previously decided that their request for this conference was unnecessary. They had failed to inform London.

3. As there was no news during the day I 'phoned W. and ascertained that apparently only Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} had left W., and they left so late in the day that they did not seem to expect a conference. I therefore concluded it was postponed or forgotten.

4. My reason for writing to you was that it seemed necessary that some individual should be appointed to be responsible for the Committee's appointments in future, and thus prevent a number of very busy London and S. officials being inconvenienced, and that as the representative of S. at W., you would know the best way to get some such arrangement under way.

I am sure the "mess up" on the 6th was just an unfortunate oversight at W., but we all want to avoid another.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
B.J.
