required depth, as there was two of the slots in these pads that were very shallow.

Re camshaft squawks. The camshaft squawk is audible on 24-EX, and as we are running into trouble with No. 6 exhaust valve becoming noisy, it would appear that the wearing condition of the tappet is again at fault. During the tests of 23-EX, we [handwritten] thoroughly [/handwritten] established that if a tappet is quiet and then becomes noisy, one must look for a flat being worn on the sliding surface of the tappet. A small flat worn on this surface causes a bad [handwritten] valve [/handwritten] tappet noise, which in every case would be put down to a valve [strikethrough] noise [/strikethrough]. This seems to be occuring on 24-EX. This feature points to better lubrication being necessary for the cam faces and tappet sliding surfaces, it requires jets of oil being incorporated in the cylinder base to spray on these faces the whole of the time. [handwritten] re E's remarks [/handwritten]

Gear box. We have a definite oil leak from the rear bearing and front bearing of the 3rd. motion shaft in the gear box. A considerable quantity of oil drains into the flywheel case from the front bearing. The other feature is too high an air pressure is built up in the bear box, and a definite air vent is required. We have made this by drilling the filler cap as reported, and only a very slight leak of oil is thrown out through the whole. The other leak is from the attachment of the hand brake to the gear box. The gears are good. The engagement of the gears could be made easier, the change speed mechanism is still not sloppy enough for easy changes. There is no trouble in getting the reverse gear in.

Servo. We find on this car that no oil has reached the bearings of the cams on the servo. The lubrication of these
