HIGH SPEED WOBBLES.
MICHELIN TYPE COMPANY'S INVESTIGATIONS.

Last week we received from Mr. Healey of the Dunlop Co. a copy of a paper on "wheel shimmy" written by the Michelin Tyre Co. This paper was procured by a member of the Dunlop Rubber Co's staff in France. We have translated the paper and obtained duplicates of the illustrations which we are forwarding to you.

It will be noted that the observations in this paper confirm the results of our own investigations in almost every particular.

The Michelin Co. do not appear to have made any fresh discovery on the subject, nor to have evolved a satisfactory explanation of the phenomenon.

We note that they strongly advocate arranging the king pin axis in the plane of the wheel. We have had some special wheels on order for some weeks to enable us to carry out this test on our standard front wheel brake axle. Previously we have only been able to try wheels in this condition on an old type axle and with high pressure tyres. We now have received the wheels and shall be able to proceed with the test.

The Michelin tyre Co. do not appear to have noted the full significance of wheel toe-in and toe-out. contd :-
