To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} d.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Ry. ORIGINAL EFC3/AD13.11.29. X.7625. S.S. STARTER MOTOR. X7625 Further to my EFC2/AD13.11.29, I have now to hand a report AD.42, relating to the condition of an S.S. starter motor removed from an experimental chassis after running 8,600 miles. This reads as follows :- "The commutator is in good condition, without any signs of burning, but somewhat dark and sticky. All brushes (C.M.3) are free and have well polished working faces. There is a moderate amount of brush dust present. The commutator end bearing is rather slack but is well lubricated as is also the damper piston. The main bearing is slightly slack but is otherwise in good condition and appears to have received sufficient lubricant. All the terminals were tightened about a quarter turn on the carcase, and the bolt connecting the field to the positive brushes was tightened nearly a whole turn. The pinion teeth are rather worn and the splines are very slack. The condition of the armature operated contact points was found to be satisfactory". EFC. | ||
