We further suggest that this piece of design work ought to be considered as an experiment, and that consequently all the short cuts permissible in experiments should be available to urge the job along. If and when the general scheme is proved to give the desired result, then the final details to facilitate durability, production and service can be considered. Amongst other recent modifications, the increase in bore of the 20/25 and Bentley have shewn that this is often the most satisfactory and economical way of introducing improvements. The completely re-designed J-III unit of the same size never got to the customer. Should the experiment decide that a completely new car is imperative before independent suspension can be introduced, then sweeping chassis alterations will be justified. At the moment the weight of evidence indicates that we can satisfy the customer without a major upheaval in the factory, experimental department, or at the coachbuilders.
