DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "DUNLOPS, PHONE, BIRMINGHAM" TELEPHONE: ERDINGTON 2121 (P.B.X) EXTENSION No. 395. YOUR REF: OUR REF: HEP/HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}2204. FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM 24 Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Limited, DERBY. For the attention of S.H.Grylls, Esq. 28th August, 1939. (Dict. 26th) Dear Sirs, During Mr. Healey and Mr. King's visit, we understand the question of light weight 5.50x16 rims was under discussion, as it was intimated that wheels with this rim fitment would be required for certain tyre tests. We would confirm that we have made arrangements to produce a stock of 25 rims from improvised plant, and the estimated weight of these will be 13 lbs 12 ozs as against 15 lbs 2 ozs for the standard type. The outside diameter of the disc pressing which will be required to obtain the necessary nip will be 13.448", and we should be interested to hear whether we may expect some centre pressings from you on which a number of rims could be fitted. In view of the developments on your production where heavier gauge material has been used for the Wraith rims, we would, however, ask you to consider these light weight rims as an experimental equipment, and should they be put on test we would be very grateful for your comments on their performance. Yours faithfully, For DUNLOP RUBBER CO., LIMITED. [Signature] Manager - Car Manfrs. Division. | ||
