Re: High Lift Pump Failure on 35-EX. This pump was the second experimental pump obtained from the S.U. Company, and was fitted with a silencing washer and had a reduced stroke which had increased the minimum voltage at which the pump would work. The pump began to be erratic at 2,997 miles which ceased to deliver sufficient petrol with a water temperature of 87°C, and subsequently failed altogether. The pump was returned and replaced with one of the latest, which will work down to 6 volts and has no silencing arrangements. We returned the faulty pump to the S.U. Co., and had it examined in my presence - the failure was due to both armatures fouling the sides of the magnet pots where there should be a clearance of 5 thous, and was due to a machining error on the armature and eccentricity in the diaphragm assembly. These armatures are not standard, and had been made for this pump. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems} | ||
