R.R. 285A (100 T) (S.G. 643, 19-2-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2618 X.3507 Memo from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. EFC. RECEIVED BY3-P28.9.20. X.3507 CHASSIS - FRAMES & FITTINGS. RE FRAME FITTINGS FOR LUGGAGE CARRIER. ------------------------------------ We have only just seen a copy of R1-G23820, headed Petrol Tank, from R.{Sir Henry Royce} In the last paragraph in connection with X.3507a, Mr Royce makes the following remarks:- X.3507a. As regards the frame fittings for the luggage carrier, these appear to be of ample strength, and of light and satisfactory construction. I think they should be fitted in all cases, so as to avoid the coachbuilders very defective work which we have experienced in the past. The whole luggage carrier should be supplied, or the designs supplied to the coachbuilders, providing this has been thoroughly well tested out. In view of the foregoing does this mean that now that the frame fittings are standardised that they should be fitted to every chassis - so far the proposition has only been that the frame fittings for the luggage grid should be fitted in conjunction with the shock absorber. So far as scrap is concerned, the only piece involved would be the small triangular bracket made of light steel plate, to which the diagonal stay is bolted. There is one further point, namely, that so far we have only dealt with the frame fittings - Mr Royce, you notice in his note, suggests that the whole luggage carrier should be supplied, or alternatively the designs of same supplied to the coachbuilders - so far we have had no designs.
