FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SECRET. ORIGINAL E1/M9.4.29. X7250 X7150 X7180 SS.{S. Smith} WATER CIRCULATION DRAINAGE. Regarding the criticism on SS.{S. Smith} that the water circulation system is not sufficiently drained, we find it is difficult to improve on the present position of the drain cock as far as we can judge without the model. The cock cannot be lower owing to a brake rope cutting through on the bump position directly underneath, and also the cock must be fairly accessible. All we propose to do therefore for the present is to alter the shape of the water pipe as on the attached print of LeC. 2688., so that the residual water is reduced to the minimum, instead of existing along the length of the pipe. This disposes of what appears to us to be the Chief only objection - e.g. that the chassis may be drained on an upward slope leaving the pump end of the existing pipe too full of water.
