Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. c. to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Re. Visit of Mr. W.C. Kennington - Managing Director of Delco-Remy & Hyatt. Co. Ltd. Mr. Kennington visited us on Thursday 28th. instant for the purpose of discussing several points in connection with Delco Remy ignition and Philco car radio sets, of which they are now the distributors. (1) Delco-Remy coil ignition. We have been investigating the ignition question on the Bentley with a view to reducing costs, without sacrificing efficiency or reliability. For some considerable time we have had a Delco-Remy Battery Ignition set on test. This is a double contact breaker as opposed to our own single contact breaker distributor. Electrically, there is no criticism we can make of this set to indicate that it is in any way inferior to our own. We are proposing to run it on 6-B-1V, the next 10,000 miles car. Mr. Kennington supplies this distributor head and coil complete for 27/-. The cost of our own distributor is £2. 2. 0d. and the coil 15/-. We discussed with Mr. Kennington various points concerning ignition coil design. He was particularly interested in the coil fitted to the Phantom 111 chassis which, as we have pointed out in a previous report, gives a better performance at high speeds than the Delco Remy special high speed coil. We also discussed coil ignition for aero engines and Mr. Kennington has promised to let us have some data in connection with experiments they have been carrying out on aero coil ignition in the U.S.A. Apparently the Bendix Corporation of America an associated company of the Delco Remy Co., are also making a battery ignition set for aero engines and Mr. Kennington is going to let us have full particulars of this scheme. (2) Interference on Rolls-Royce and Bentley Electrical Systems when fitted with wireless sets. Considerable interference occurs with our voltage regulator on certain cars and we discussed with Mr. Kennington steps we are | ||
