PARIS TRIALS CAR 53-EX.

We have run this car about 300 miles.
Generally speaking it is very favourable and promising.

The following major points require attention:-

(1) Engine. Piston knocks when starting up from cold.
We are going to try a set of standard split pistons.

(2) Overoiling. This is very bad at low speeds and it is not possible to run the engine for many minutes without excessive smoke and oiling up of sparking plugs.
Whilst we may get some improvement with new pistons and rings, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} considers that white metal connecting rod bearings are necessary.

(3) Carburetters flood. We have had some trouble with these apparently due to foreign matter.
Some form of filter is required close up to the carburetters similar to the 20/25HP.

(4) Clutch spigot bearing screams intermittently.
This is a needle bearing and should be replaced by an Oillite bush.

(5) Steel valve push rods are fitted.
These are to be replaced by Duralumin rods.

(6) Gear Box. 1st motion shaft bearing noisy.
(7) Side shaft gears noisy when hot.
These two items have developed during test and may be inter-connected.

(8) All synchro mesh gears crash on engaging.
This is an intermittent trouble and it may be due to the clutch not freeing properly.

(9) Top gear case out when coasting.
We shall make an examination for the cause of this when gearbox is dismantled for the other items.
