BENTLEY PISTONS.

Will you please issue a Depot Sheet to cover the following:-

(1) If in service it is necessary to fit new pistons for any reason, the new pistons should be identical in type and to the same drawing number as the ones produced with the particular engine at the Works.

A note has recently been added to this effect on the part list.

Since the inception of the 4¼-litre Bentley up to the 100th chassis in K.{Mr Kilner} series, the Aerolite pistons were to EB.2844, and from the 101st in K.{Mr Kilner} Series onwards Aerolite pistons to EB.3151 are used.

The difference between the pistons is that EB.3151 has a smaller skirt clearance in the cylinder bore than the previous type EB.2844.

(2) When replacement pistons are fitted in service (to EB.2844), the latest scraper ring should be fitted (EB.3122). This came into production along with the new piston EB.3151.

(3) It has been previously instructed that when the large oil pump is fitted, the oil jet holes in the connecting rods should be blanked.

The large oil pump was incorporated in production on the 33rd chassis in K.{Mr Kilner} Series, and as previously stated the EB.3151 piston on the 101st chassis in K.{Mr Kilner} Series.

On account of the danger of "scuffing", due to reduced skirt clearance, any oil consumption troubles in service after the 100th in K.{Mr Kilner} Series must not be remedied by blanking up the jet hole in the con. rod.
