Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} With regard to the attached, kindly note Mr. Day's remarks, and also we might add that we do not know of any change on the new type pivots which would make them any less efficient than the older type, as regards keeping out water. Ma. J.R. Mr. Day Remarks - "It is just possible for water to get into these caps around the outside of the bottom bush and around the joint made between the cross steering lever and the axle pivot, but it is not easy in either case, and would be more difficult if the bearing were oiled well in the first case. There should also be a good metal to metal joint made between the cross steering lever and the pivot. It is possible to make a sheet metal cover which would still further protect this bearing, but it would mean alterations to existing gear". (Handwritten in left margin: X/091) | ||
