VISIT TO THE S.U.CARBURETTER CO.
OF BIRMINGHAM.

Purpose - To discuss carburation generally, and in particular, to obtain information on the two main points of carburation which interest us at the present time :-

(a) Fuel economy.

(b) Automatic carburation.

Having been in personal touch with Vauxhalls at the time of the development of their 10 H.P. car, it was interesting during this visit to compare notes of the work done by the S.U.Company as against that done by the Vauxhall Motor Co. remembering that the former is representative of Morris Motors Ltd.

In the case of Vauxhalls, it is doubtful whether any other car manufacturer has taken the problem of fuel economy more seriously. They, very rightly regard it as a very important sales factor.

On the other hand, Morris Motors actually own a carburetter factory complete with equipment (test bench and engines) specialists and experience in this particular problem. The amalgamation up to the present time, however, has not served to further the "fuel economy" question.

Independent experiments by S.U's, however, compare favourably with our own recent tests. They attach great importance to the design of a mixing chamber in the centre of the induction pipe, in which any throttle bias or swirl
