COPY. My Dear Wheeler, Bombay, Fn5/S28.6.28. re Balloon Tyres. Following your note with regard to the above, I called on Sir Reginald Ford to ask him whether his personal opinion expressed to me in February last still holds good in view of his probably having received a letter from Fort Dunlop. He showed me the correspondence which he received from them by last mail and read to me his reply which was in the form of a personal letter to their Head Technical Man and this letter expressed Sir Reginald's opinion that the suggestion I put forward in February last should be carried out, that is to say, that when we sell cars over here it is our duty to endeavour to find out if the car is to be used for Shikkar or not, and in the case of the former, that we should suggest that High Pressure Tyres be fitted in the place of Balloon Tyres. He also suggested that possibly the new "Medallion" tyre which, as you probably know, is a reinforced medium pressure tyre, would also be serviceable for cars being used for shikkar. As this is the first time I have heard anything about the new "Medallion" tyre, I await information from you as to whether the Works think this tyre could be used in future or not. There are stocks available of this type of tyre in this country. I presume I shall be hearing from you with regard to the above as soon as you have had an opportunity of hearing from the Dunlop people. Yours sincerely, | ||
