Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. 25th June 1928. -2- possible by a general volumetric reduction to increase the 500 r.p.m. H.P. by 5% while only reducing the 2750 r.p.m. end by 2%. We only mention this to show the large range of variations open to us while still maintaining a fair margin of improvement. The lower end of the throttle curve which is of paramount importance on the road was not considered at all on the bench, for the temperature and mean bonnet pressure differences between road and bench conditions make it, in our experience, futile to tune for the former purposes on the bench. We again beg, therefore, that you will ignore road readings until readjustments are made for that purpose. We are preparing another carburettor to deal with these requirements which were anticipated from bench observations and as this may not be ready until late in the week we ask if we may be permitted to postone our visit until the following week when Mr. Mantell will bring a new carburettor along and carry out the necessary adjustments. Meanwhile, assuring you of our best attention, We are, Yours faithfully, FOR SOLEX LTD., G W H Richards, Managing Director. | ||
