EXPERIMENTAL CAR - ROLLS-ROYCE 25 HP.
Chassis No. 21 G.IV

Run by EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} week-end 5 & 6/5/34.
As discussed with you today.

Engine.- Very good standard for smooth running. Certain amount of T.R. on pick up, but less harsh and fussiness as speeded up. Good for acceleration and performance - high engine speed performance, decided improvement.

Carburation.- Prospect good. Starting O.K. Slow running, closed position, too slow and mixture seems too strong. Decided improvement as regards no spitting in the exhaust. Consumption doubtful - petrol gauge not working.

Clutch.- Very bad for jagger and shudder on engaging.

General.- Dynamo & Drive.- Bad grunt starting up cold low speeds, but goes off when speeded up and warmed up. Oil leak bad from water pump drive. Fumes and oil vapour under bonnet from engine rocker arm cover vent; no connection to carburetter inlet.

Springing.- Very good and S.A. control range effective, but still find about mid position suits me for all normal conditions. The last few notches "min." side seem out of action. Steering wheel "joggle" improved by increased damping.

Axle.- Groans in drive on retard bad 45 to 35 m.p.h. Suspect axle, as groans still there at same car speed on 3rd gear.

Petrol Fumes in Body with full tank.

Note:- Bonnet rests on steering guard.

Body.- Water leaks bad through scuttle and rear of sliding roof. Creaks and rumbles.
