Y3435 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY10/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 12.6.25. we have received two fabric couplings from Hillmans of Dudley, made to our standard dimensions. The plates on the coupling have been made by hand, and therefore the finish of them is not quite as good as it could be. This can be rectified later. personally, I do not see why there is any advantage in this scheme over the hardy. In both cases the material is produced from Egyptian cotton which has a long staple or thread, although it is supposed to have been produced by a special method of weaving. The information in regard to this point, however, is very meagre and it is very doubtful whether there is anything in it. As to whether they have been able to use the Hardy scheme of twisting the layers of fabric relative to one another angularly I am not sure. In any case, there is no need to involve ourselves in two issues. It might be of interest to try out these couplings on the test rig to see whether they appear to stand up anything like the Hardy or not. BY.{R.W.
