SMITH INSTRUMENTS FOR "U" SERIES During a visit to Messrs. Smiths on Monday the 18th inst. they raised one or two points concerning the above instruments. The first point was the thermometer. They would like to keep to their figure of .814" across the flats of the nut which secures the cylinder head unit to the cylinder head union and they would be glad if we could agree to this. The second point was the coiling of the thermometer tubes. They would like to send us the thermometer tubes not coiled as shown on our drawing D.53259 as this would facilitate packing and despatch arrangements etc. They would therefore like us to coil these tubes ourselves at the Works. The third point was the speedometer fixing flange. On our drawing we show the outside diameter of the spigot flange to be 3.850" dia. They ask whether this dia. could be increased to 3.885" as this will prevent a lot of scrap owing to the fact that they have produced a number of cases to this diameter. This, we assume will depend on how far we have got with the tooling of our patch as it will entail the altering of our fixing screw centres. We should be glad if you will deal with Messrs. Smiths and arrange these points accordingly. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
