[Stamp: RECEIVED] [Stamp: EFC. from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} 8 FEB 1922] [Handwritten: X3573] BY8-P20.2.22. MATERIALS. THE USE OF CONTINENTAL BAKELITE SHEETS. Referring to EFC4/T6222, under paragraph 4, you remark that Continental Bakelite plates shrink when under pressure if they are heated up, and it results in a tendency for the brush holders to become loose. In regard to the question of reverting to Mica to overcome the trouble referred to above, I think before we went back from our present position we should satisfy ourselves whether the following materials, when nipped up by a bolt and heated to 100°C, contract or not;- (1) Paxolin, of which we have a supply. (2) Bakelite Dilecto, of which we have not any samples at present I understand, but the C.O. may be able to obtain some sample sheets of this to enable you to try out the experiments.
