(Design with tungsten points with flexible fixed contact support).

A.{Mr Adams} MAIN DISTRIBUTOR & CONTACT BREAKER TEST.

Inspection shall be made that the contact points aree exactly opposite, with contact surfaces bedding centrally: This can only be done accurately, and should be done, by running the distributor with a coil, as the surface of the points will be characteristically marked where electrical contact has occurred.

The contact points should be carefully adjusted until this mark becomes central on their surfaces.

Also that the cam runs perfectly true and that the contact breaker lever moves freely on its pivot; which pivot should be greased.

Ascertain that the contact lever spring is free from cracks. The contact lever complete with spring should be temporarily removed and the lever pushed back once or twice against the spring as far as possible, without shewing any signs of distress.

Also that the pressure contacts between the spring and lever, and between spring and pivot, are clean, i.e. bright (and not blue oxidised) at the surfaces of contact, but only at these surfaces. These spring pressure contacts should also be vaselined.

Contd.
