1010. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.6/B. 26.8.38. The material specification for the B.3 and B.50 Frames acquired from John Thompsons is as follows :- Carbon .20 - .25 Sulphur .038 Phosphorous .04 Manganese .5 The material proposed by Sankeys for the Frame was - Carbon .15 - .20. As Briggs and other pressing firms consider the strength of frames produced with the proper tools considerably greater than the Hand-smithed frames, it appears that the lower percentage of Carbon should be satisfactory.
