We recommend the following modifications be made to improve and lighten the Bentley steering. (1) The cross steering tube poundage to be 6 lbs. + or - 1 lb. To obtain this figure it is necessary to reduce the steel contact pieces G.100434 by .0625" either side. (2) The side steering tube poundage to be 3.5 to 4 lbs. To obtain this it is necessary to reduce the spring G.100432 .125" in length and also reduce the steel contact pieces G.100434 by .0625". This applies to the front end of the side steering tube. (3) The rear of the side steering tube remains unaltered and should be to drawing FB.240. This shows that the spring guide FB.722 should protrude .012" beyond the end of socket before nut F.100158 is tightened. Owing to the high rating of the springs in the rear end of the side steering tube, it is most important that the clearance of .012" should be strictly adhered to.
