SHOCK ABSORBERS FOR 40/50 CHASSIS. X.4426

At the Conference held in Derby on the 27th. Oct. 21 the following minutes was passed:-

SPRINGING.

Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has been asked to put before R. {Sir Henry Royce} particulars of and experience with Shock Absorbers, costing perhaps £5. which might cure many cases, with a view to getting R. {Sir Henry Royce} to consent to their use. It was agreed that this charge of £5 for shock absorbers should be paid by the customer.

To carry out these tests we have borrowed a set of Hartford Shock Absorbers from the Marmon car and have fitted these to the rear of a 40/50 H.P. chassis. Attached to Mr. Royce's copy of this memo. is a blue print F.9599 which shows the shock absorber and method of fixing. The "Hartford" are the only proprietary shock absorbers we have been able to obtain so far which will allow for the maximum movement of our rear springs. The fixing of them is very simple and there is no risk of them fouling the body, mud-guards stays, luggage grid etc.

We are running the Hartford Shock Absorbers on 1.EX Car. We find that they work very effectively as a damping device.

One of the distinct advantages with the "Hartford" is the very easy method of adjustment. The adjustment of the shock absorber can be altered in a few seconds, and the position of the nut for adjusting is very convenient - because they are so contd:
