2.9.35.

We have received your memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 9/KW

We have tried starting up with the balence pipes removed. The result is very encouraging. The Engine started up at first attempt without the usual emittance of black exhaust. We must however be sure of the result, as to-day's temperature is low and at the present moment we cannot go on the road as the front wings are having several dints straightened out.

We quite agree that the trouble is due to evaporation and collection of strong mixture in the Air Silencer. We were under the impression that you understood that was the trouble.

On the 20 H.P. Carburetter, the balancing pipe is differently arranged, and in our opinion, would make quite a lot of difference, as the air stream from the silencer is kept apart from any evaporation from the float chambers.
