GOSHAWK 11. INSTRUMENT BOARD BRACKET & "D" STEERING. X.4067. X.4264. We send herewith N.sch.1424 shewing the shortened instrument board bracket "D" type, which it will be seen follows exactly the lines of the existing bracket except for the point of attachment to the steering column. We should like it to be ascertained by experiment before this is standardised that no harm is doen to the steering column by clamping it round the tube instead of round the thrust bearing fitting. We expect that the long instrument board bracket will remain standard as giving a better position for the windscreen but if as a result of experience it is found that the shorter one is more generally useful we should standardise that, but we expect to have to supply 2 brackets for some time. A point that has arisen in connection with the coach-building is the length of the thread on the countersunk board. Since there is a deep wooden packing allowed which it is recognised will vary considerably, we think there should be plenty of thread on these screws as indicated on this drawing.
