To EY. Copy to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Dr. NMO. HPE. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/APM. 30 206 Front Brake Operation - Bentley III (Girling). We send herewith N.Sch.4973 showing the brake operation for the Bentley III between the expanding wedge and the frame idler lever. A subsequent scheme will show the equalisation gear. Full particulars of the wedge have been shown on a previous scheme. This drawing shows the modification to the yoke piece forging to carry the bearings for the idler lever on the yoke piece, and we suggest that you now have enough information to detail and instruct this part. On this scheme also we show a modification to the rear arm of the top triangle lever, brought about by a desire to use a different method for driving the torsion bar. The top triangle lever bearing remains unchanged but a modified design for the fixing of the bearing pin into the yoke piece has been resorted to due to the impossibility of using a clamping bolt. The pin is a press fit in the forging and may be either a parallel fit or a 1 in 200 taper, whichever is the better from a work point of view. With respect to the forks on the brake operating rod above the top triangle, we realise that these are not to an existing design. Should by any chance there be in existence a forging for a fork having a 1/4" diameter pin, which would fulfill the requirements of design we suggest that it may be used.
