Dear Sirs,

With reference to your letter of the 12th instant, Messrs. Dobbie McInnes Ltd. are making a torsiograph for us for use in conjunction with the Standard-Sunbury Cathode Ray Indicator, and it is probably for that reason that they referred you to us.

While we believe that the equipment in question will be suitable for critical speed determinations, both as regards speeds and deflection amplitudes, we feel it is still too much in the experimental stage to recommend it. Even when we are satisfied that it is suitable for the ordinary car engine and for marine work, etc, it may require refinement to adapt it for aero engine work and our experiences last year, both at your works and at Bristol, have led us to the conclusion that it is essential for the aero engine builders themselves to undertake the development of cathode ray indicating equipment from its present position to one of suitability for the extreme conditions met with in aero engines.

Yours faithfully,
FOR THE ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., LTD.,
