Hancock - Head Chateauroux}3/M.9.9.37. & THE REPAIR OF CONNECTING RODS AT KINGSBURY DEPOT. We have given consideration to your suggestion that Kingsbury should re-condition Connecting Rods at their Depot instead of sending them to Derby, as this procedure will undoubtedly save time and expense, and also allow Rods to be re-fitted to their respective engines. We are in agreement with the arrangement, providing Kingsbury are satisfied that they are suitably equipped to satisfactorily deal with this work. To carry out this re-conditioning, a bench fixture is necessary for hand reaming and radiusing the bore of the shells, after fitting to the Rods. A further bench fixture is necessary to ream out the small end bush. It will also be necessary to observe the following conditions to ensure a maintenance of the required standard of quality. (a.{Mr Adams}) The shells must be bedded in by filing the outside diameter to fit the bore of Rod and Cap, and a good blued fit is essential. The necessity for this bedding is brought about by the distortion in the bore of the Rod which occurs after a period of running, in service. (b.) The .0005 nip on the joint face of each half shell must be maintained to prevent their fretting in the Rods. (c.) The alignment of parallelism of the bores at large and small end when checked with test bars must be within a limit of .002 on 8" and the sideways alignment between large and small end must be within .005. (d.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}) The bolts must be carefully examined for stretch and damaged threads, also the nuts for slack and damaged threads. RHC{R. H.
