Bentley V.{VIENNA}
Damper control unit in Gearbox.

Loss of damper poundage was occasionally experienced in France and was attributed to dirt under the ball valve. This has now been confirmed as several large chips of carbon have been found in the suction pipe.

We therefore wish to try a simple gauze thimble on the lower end of the suction pipe. In this position it can be withdrawn with the pipe for cleaning and inspection, and ought to get washed continuously by oil thrown from the gears.

Will you please design such a filter in gauze as used for the suction strainer in the engine, and instruct for all experiment cars. We particularly want to get one on the next car for France so the job is therefore urgent.

This should not be added to the L.O.P. until it has been tested.
