SHOCK DAMPERS.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} has approved of N. sch. 3264. - the revised damper with the double acting valve.

We understood when HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was down here last week that some experiments had been carried out with the double acting valve and that results were promising.

We presume now that the revised damper shewn on N. sch. 3264. will be pushed on with all speed, and we should like to have as soon as possible a report as to progress.

We shall of course like to incorporate the results of any experiments with the double acting valve which you are now making into our design as quickly as possible. For instance, HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} mentioned the possibility of a dashpot being required on the double valve.

As regards production if there is no definite advantage in avoiding handing the covers by the method indicated on the drawing we ourselves should prefer to have handed covers, and so simplify the casting and the drilling, together with gaining a little ground clearance. We hope the Production Dept. will make a decision on this point as soon as possible.
