Sv. To EH. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. Y5940 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL/LG22. 4. 26. 20 HP. FRONT WHEEL BRAKES. X5940 EY24/H29. 3. 26. The attached sketch shows the alteration to Goshawk front wheel brake covers, under consideration in the above memo. The object of cutting the slot away further is to enable the dust cover to be dismantled and re-erected without taking down the bottom pivot cap. As will be seen, the modification reduces the overlap between the dust cover and stub axle, thereby leaving a very narrow bearing surface at the points A - A; this increases the probability of water entering the front brakes very considerably and is not to be recommended. If it is thought that the saving in time consequent the alteration is worth consideration; it will be necessary to leave more metal on the stub axle, as shewn in the sketch in order to guarantee a water-tight joint. The saving in time gained by the alteration is very slight, being the time taken to undo two studs and remove the bottom pivot cover; it is doubtful whether the saving merits the proposed alteration. The Works are not making the altered dust covers - one pair was done at the suggestion of the Psychologist expert during his recent visit. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/A.J.Lidsey. | ||
