Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /GR. {George Ratcliffe} 2/JAB.21.1.39. DAILY REPORT. Paulin Bentley II.- B-27-LE. Crankcase gallery pipe removed from spare engine, cleaned and joints polished for inspection. Passed O.K. This pipe is made from brass tubing and brazed (not steel and soldered). Oil pressure tested, O.K. Cylinder block re-ground with semi-glass finish .0015" O {Mr Oldham} /S. 2 new pistons fitted and one conrod gudgeon pin bush eased. These were fitted to Nos.I and 6. Spare .030" gasket fitted to cylinder head. Rocker shaft complete with rods were fitted as taken from original unit in order to obtain correct valve clearances. Clutch spring cover re-marked with timing marks to conform with different dowel location and 25% stronger clutch springs fitted. Centre plate assembled, O.K. after trial on splines of first motion shaft in overdrive gearbox. Linings appeared O.K. with no sign of charring after slipping at middle speed acceleration. Overdrive gearbox overhauled externally and clutch operating leverage interchanged, O.K. Clutch pit housing and change lever mechanism interchanged O.K. Original special short hand lever fitted, O.K. Gate housing requires two extra holes drilled in top of frame side member. This will be done with engine in chassis. Front suspension of body inspected, O.K. before the engine was replaced in chassis. No grease nipple fitted, but oiled at ends of centre bush. 6.50 x 16" Dunlop Racing tyres fitted to rear. 5.50 x 18" " " " " to front. ---------- Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /GR. {George Ratcliffe} | ||
