PHANTOM IGNITION. X8680 X8783 X4653 X8690 The question of the life of contact points has received constant attention. These investigations have beeen going on since the first Phantom cars were proposed. We have run tests of 1000 hrs. on the rig but we cannot reproduce the failures which occur on the car. We have recently standardised an improved ignition head for preventing oil and crankcase fumes getting on to the points. We are sure this is going to be a definite improvement. We are also preparing a standardisation sheet for a new coil which will take less current. This again is with the object of improving the life of the contacts. On the next car going to France we are testing an alteration in the balance resistance with the object of improving the life of contacts. We can assure you that this matter is receiving the urgent attention of the Experimental Department. We should be pleased for any helpful suggestions to reduce this fault.
