Hall - Le Mans. You are already dealing with the petrol tank and spare wheel carrier for this car, also the Hartford shock absorbers. You have also the close ratio gearbox rebuilt. In addition to the work already done, the following points require attention :- Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} (1) We want to put in hand a complete unit, the number of which will be R-21. We should like to get the pieces together as soon as possible, as an official will be coming up to inspect the unit before it is erected. This is really a formality only, to check the bore and stroke, etc. We attach a specification to which the unit can be built, we will give you the final details of the cylinder head when we have completed our tests. Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} (2) It is probable that we shall want to carry twice the quantity of oil at Le Mans that we had at Ulster. Will you please see if there is any reason why we cannot double the size of the spare oil tank. Ll.Smith. (3) A special Borg & Beck clutch has been prepared which will be supplied by Ll.Smith. Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} (4) Special light rear road springs will be fitted to the car, and we are proposing to use those removed from the rear of Lappin's car which are at present in the garage stores. Will you please inspect these, as if they are not in 100% condition we shall have to order some others. AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} (5) Brake Drums - we may run with either cast-iron drums with the increased ribs or aluminium drums. Ha/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} will give you a specification for cast-iron drums with increased ribs; the aluminium drums will either be made to design drawings which are at present being prepared, or alternatively we shall use the drums we are at present using experimentally. A special brake lining will be used with these drums, also to be specified by Ha/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} | ||
