84013. To Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/MJ.28.8.31. SPRINGING FOR PARIS TRIALS CAR. Whilst 25-EX. is in France we should like you to take advantage of its presence there to try the suspension. The car is fitted with front springs having 4 1/2" deflection and rear springs having 10 1/2" deflection. The hydraulic shock absorbers have been loaded up to enable the car to be driven at high speeds. Our contention is that this car is an admirable compromise for anybody who habitually tours about in France and yet is not a speed merchant. The only criticism is that the car rides harshly below 20 m.p.h., but its harshness is not bad with rear tyres between 30 and 35 lbs/sq.in. The rear tyre pressure should not be allowed to fall below 30 or the steering immediately has a feeling of instability and wandering. We consider that even if Hartfords were preferred because they are adjustable, better results would be obtained with this rating than with the standard rating especially as regards pitching. Should you consider that 25-EX. springing gives better results than your standard springing, there would be no difficulty whatever in getting the necessary pieces for 24-EX. which could then be fitted before the Salon.
