contd. -3- case. A lot of care has been taken with the experimental sets but they have not been water-tight. We realise that if the thread is slack it will accommodate a certain amount of un-alignment. We recommend that cheese-head screws should be tried because in that case, packing could be used under the head in order to ensure a water-tight joint - they also do not demand such accurate machining. Flywheel casing. At present, if any small nut or screw is dropped through the Inspection Cover above the clutch, it falls down and the lowest point is the gear ring on the flywheel. If anything drops in when the engine is running it is liable to either smash the gear teeth or the case. We recommend that a small pocket with a detachable cover from underneath should be cast in which would form a protection so that in the case of any small nuts or screws being dropped in, they cannot smash up the engine. In erecting the engine, a nut was dropped in and we had to turn the engine upside-down to get it out. To be continued. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
