With reference to Mr. Royce's note, addressed to Mr. Wormald re. 58NA{Mr Nadin} returned to Derby in error, I have received a note direct from Mr. Royce about this, asking me to proceed with the work. This I have forwarded to you, pointing out that I am dealing with it as Mr. Royce instructs. As regards the test Mr. Royce instructs, I have done this, and certainly the first impression is that this brake is very satisfactory; it is effective, reliable and quiet and smooth in action. I made a test, however, of what the brakes would stand under rough use, i.e. coming down a long Alpine Pass, and after driving the car round the Track for two laps, with the brakes on, working against the engine, the brakes became practically useless, the pedal coming against the floorboard. After cooling down, the brakes again became quite normal, and as before. In view of this point, I do not think we should [Handwritten note on the side]: The descent was almost double length.
