X. 8320 To. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from A.J.Stent. c. to CJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S E C R E T. ST1/M16.8.24. EAC.11. MODIFIED GEARBOX SLIDERS. X. 8320 We send herewith LeC.1909 shewing modifications to the gearbox sliders for the above chassis, necessitated by the simplified change speed mechanism. The modifications consist in the addition of the casehardened locating pieces at the forward end, and the attachment of these. In the case of the two short sliders, central bolts have been necessary we believe to allow both nuts to be locked at the forward end, as it appears to us impossible to split pin nuts at the rear end of these two sliders when in position. In the case of the long slider we have retained the present method of tensioning up the central tube but have elongated the threaded portion of the forward plug which is brazed to this tube.
